What did the customer encounter?

Hamburg’s historic center is a densely built—up area with limited access to utilities. Cast-iron sewer outlets, laid more than 70 years ago, have fallen into disrepair: multiple fistulas, cracks and leak-proof joints.

The main problems:

  • Access to the pipes is possible only through the basements of residential buildings
    (private property)
  • Excavations in the surrounding areas required coordination with the Department of
    Architecture (Monuments)
  • Residents opposed noisy work and the dismantling of coverings
  • The traditional repair method required the relocation of residents for the duration of
    the work.
  • The city’s budget was limited

Preparatory stage

The first stage was a TV inspection of all 12 issues. This made it possible to accurately determine the damage sites, pipe diameters and the length of the areas requiring rehabilitation. At the same time, the pipes were hydrodynamically cleaned of deposits.
